Anyway this is more a friendly helper if you are also building a picture gallery:

Namexif
Namexif is a really handy tool for older pictures.
If you have files with names like: IMG_2566.JPG
or using more than one camera with different name standards (or like me had a problem with the dates).
It allows you to rename the picture based on meta data, I use: (YYYY)-(MM)-(DD)_(hh).(mm).(ss)_(FMR)
To replace the filenames with Year-Month-Date_hour.minute.second and the Orignal Filename.
Just run it on directory including sub-folders…
This will make sorting and finding duplicates much easier….

Exif Pilot
Let’s you change the meta data on a picture file.
Exif Pilot is probably not the best program, but it’s free and does the trick (one file at a time).
I use it for tags currently (they call it keywords), Instead of adding the tags to the gallery program
you can add it directly to the files. Many gallery programs can read and insert it when you publish to the web.
This means that you don’t have to start over if you change gallery program on the web 🙂

Current status of my web gallery
The work is ongoing currently I’m using Koken as my primary program, but only due to a bug in Piwigo.
Currently we have 2005-2013 (early 2013) plus some of 2016 uploaded, and with the help of the above two programs will continue to get everything updated.
After that 2005-2011 will be be updated again with tags and new filenames.
But right now the primary objective is to get all the years into the gallery (selected prictures only).
(we are currently at about 7000 pictures of the selected 13.000 pictures)

After the pictures are done, some videos will also be added.
Then most likley we will add some other categories into the gallery as well.
But since it’s very manual it takes alot of time…
